As a lifelong fisherman, I’ve spent countless hours on the beautiful waters of the Pomeroon River, where the rhythm of the tide and the whispers of the jungle are my daily companions. Living in Georgetown, I often reminisce about my time in the serene surroundings of Manawarin Waramuri Island and the warmth of my fellow Guyanese. Our cultural heritage is a blend of indigenous, African, and Indian influences, and I take pride in sharing this multifaceted identity with friends and family, especially those in the diaspora. Connecting with my community, whether it’s through lively conversations at the market or sharing tales over a warm plate of metemgee, keeps me grounded and reminds me of the strength we have as a people.
While challenges exist, including the need for better infrastructure and governance, I hold onto hope for our future. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
