Greetings! My name is Girwar, and I proudly call the vibrant Essequibo Lookabu on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and rich culture of Guyana, I carry with me the flavors of our beloved dishes, like the irresistible doubles and curry that remind me of our East Indian heritage. It’s this blend of cultures—stemming from our history of migration from the East Indies to the West Indies—that shapes my identity as a Guyanese. Though I currently reside here in Guyana, I often hear stories from family and friends about life abroad in places like Canada and the USA. They reminisce about the beauty of our country as it was, while also highlighting the changes that have come with time. I see the towering houses and iron gates of Georgetown, which often spark conversations about inequality and the true essence of success. For me, true success is when every Guyanese feels uplifted, and that vision inspires my daily pursuits.
