Hi, Iām (NAME ON FILE) Mangri, a proud resident of Essequibo, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant nation, steeped in a rich blend of cultures that make our community so unique. Growing up here, I spent countless weekends enjoying the lush landscapes, from the serene banks of the Essequibo River to the bustling atmosphere of the local markets filled with the aroma of our beloved dishes like pepper pot and curry chickpeas. These flavors tell the story of our diverse heritage, influenced by Indigenous, African, East Indian, and British traditions.
Having experienced the ups and downs of life in Guyana, including the challenges of our historical past, such as the political climate during the dictatorship years, I feel a strong connection to our diaspora. Many have migrated to the USA, Canada, and the UK, taking the spirit of Guyana with them. Despite the distance, we remain connected through our shared experiences and culture, celebrating our achievements and supporting one another in all corners of the world.
As a resident of Essequibo, I take pride in my community and strive to share our stories and traditions, whether through cooking the dishes that have been passed down through generations or discussing the impact of recent developments in our country.
