Hello! Iβm Nandawattie Gangadin, a proud resident of West Coast Demerara, specifically from 48 Block N New Housing in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region. Growing up in this vibrant community has shaped who I am today. Whether itβs enjoying a plate of dahl (thatβs lentils for those unfamiliar!) or savoring some spicy pepperpot during the holidays, food is a significant part of my life that connects me to my roots.
Living in Guyana means being surrounded by lush landscapes, such as the majestic Essequibo River and the serene coastlines that define our beautiful country. I cherish the moments spent at local markets, where the aroma of fresh geera (cumin) and ripe fruits fills the air, reminding me of the warmth of our culture. The diversity of our people, from the vibrant Indo-Guyanese community to others, is something I celebrate. This melting pot of traditions adds richness to our lives and creates bonds that extend beyond our borders.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of maintaining our connections, whether through family gatherings or sharing stories with friends abroad. I often hear from others who share their love for Guyana, from loving the local doubles to reminiscing about home. Itβs these shared experiences that strengthen our sense of community, no matter where we are in the world. I look forward to continuing to connect with fellow Guyanese and sharing our unique stories!
