Hello! I’m Naresh Dwarka, a proud labourer from the vibrant Essequibo Coast, specifically in the Richmond Housing area of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our diverse communities and the unique blend of cultures that define our nation. From the hearty aroma of pepperpot wafting through family gatherings to the festive sounds of our traditional music, every aspect of my upbringing has shaped my identity as a Guyanese.
As someone with roots extending across the Indian diaspora, my family’s history is a testament to the multicultural fabric of our society. I often reminisce about the stories my father shared, echoing the sentiments of many in our community, such as how our culinary delights, particularly the fusion of Chinese and Indian influences, set us apart. There's a certain pride in being Guyanese, a pride that resonates with the diaspora, whether it’s a friendly rivalry with our Trinidadian neighbours or a shared love for our beautiful Georgetown and its historical significance.
While the challenges we face, like economic disparities, are recognized, they only strengthen my resolve to contribute positively to my community. I believe in the resilience of our people, and in moments of laughter and unity—like how we jokingly reference our beloved Pomeroon River and its quirks. As I continue my journey, I carry with me the warmth of our culture and the hope of brighter days for all Guyanese, near and far.
