Nestled along Mc Watt Street in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I find joy in the vibrant culture and rich traditions that Guyana has to offer. There's something special about the sound of rain on the roof during a warm afternoon, the scent of fresh curry wafting through the air, and the laughter of children playing outside. These are the moments that make our community feel like family, no matter where we are in the world.
As a resident of this stunning land, I cherish our local cuisine—especially pepperpot, a dish that brings warmth during Christmas gatherings, and the delightful combination of chicken curry, beef curry, and dhall with oil roti that reflect the heart of our shared culinary heritage. Whether it’s a Sunday meal or a festive celebration, the flavors and love put into each dish remind me of the connections we have, both here and in the diaspora. I often hear my friends abroad expressing their desire to visit and experience this magic for themselves, and I can't help but feel excited to share our culture with them!
Living in Essequibo, I am constantly inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us, from the tranquil rivers that weave through our landscape to the rich history embedded in every corner of our community.
