Nestled along the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, I’ve spent my life immersed in the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. As a labourer, I appreciate the beauty of hard work, whether it’s in the fields or alongside my fellow countrymen, who share a deep bond over our traditional dishes like pepperpot and metemgee. They say, "My born place sweet home Guyana," and I carry that sentiment with me wherever I go.
Life in Essequibo is vibrant, filled with the sounds of Creole banter and the aroma of our local cuisine wafting through the air. You might find me chatting with my neighbours, sharing a laugh over local tales or even trying to speak a bit of Creole, much to everyone’s amusement—just like that comment about “the way he try talk creole.” I cherish these moments that stitch our community together, reminding us of our roots and the beauty of our diverse backgrounds.
Though I work hard, I always take time to celebrate our rich culture, whether it’s during Mashramani or through the lively gatherings we have in our neighborhoods. I deeply value my connections to the Guyanese diaspora, as we all carry a piece of our homeland with us, no matter where we end up.
