Greetings! My name is Niesha Benjamin, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically the vibrant community of Aurora Estate in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guyana has shaped my identity and instilled in me a profound appreciation for our diverse traditions. From the sounds of our lively festivals to the aromas wafting from a pot of pepperpot or the sweetness of fresh guava, every moment here is a celebration of life.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I have witnessed firsthand the warmth and resilience of our people. Our towns and settlements, like Borada, embody the spirit of community that connects us, even as many of us find ourselves in the diaspora. Through sharing stories and experiences, I hope to bridge the gap between our homeland and those who now reside abroad, allowing us to celebrate our Indian, African, and Indigenous heritages together. Whether it’s at a local gathering or a Surinamese restaurant—a favorite pastime—there's always something special about enjoying our culture through food and fellowship.
