Hello! I’m Nione Persaud, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo, specifically from the vibrant community of Jai Dam Tushen East in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the rich landscapes and the warm embrace of my fellow Guyanese has shaped my identity. This beautiful region not only boasts scenic rivers and lush greenery but also a tight-knit community where stories are shared over a plate of dal puri and a glass of peanut punch. While I might not be a big fan of dal puri—because I always thought, why eat something that feels like a rag when you can enjoy a flaky roti instead?—I cherish the culinary experiences that our diverse culture has to offer.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the significance of our shared heritage, especially when we gather around our favorite dishes, often reminiscing about our roots. Whether it’s the sweet nostalgia of River Bamboo Settlement or the buzz of life along the Pomeroon River, every corner of Guyana tells a story. My experiences here fuel my passion for preserving our traditions, while also adapting to the evolving needs of our community.
