Greetings! I’m Noreen Walters, a proud resident of Hydronie on the East Bank Essequibo in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant culture of this land has shaped my identity. From enjoying a plate of dhal purry with curry to savoring fresh fish from our rivers, every meal is a reminder of the flavors that make our community unique. Just like the locals say, “You ate the dhal purry wrong; you’re supposed to pick it apart and use it on curry!” This culinary connection to our heritage is something I cherish deeply.
Living in a country rich with history and proud traditions, I often reflect on my roots and the challenges many face, especially those in the diaspora. I've seen how hard it can be for friends and family who left for better opportunities, yet I believe in the importance of giving back and contributing to our homeland.
