About OMADEVI BOODNIE-COOM

About Omadevi Boodnie-Coom

Greetings! My name is Omadevi Boodnie-Coom, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the serene public road of New Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I thrive in the vibrant community that reflects the rich cultural tapestry of Guyana. I work as a teacher, where I strive to nurture the minds of our youth, passing down not only knowledge but also a deep appreciation for our heritage, from the spicy flavors of pepperpot to the sweet satisfaction of a fresh coconut tart. As a Guyanese, I embrace our connections to the Caribbean, engaging with the wider diaspora community that shares our love for this beautiful land.

My heart resonates with the natural beauty of Guyana, from the lush Rupununi savanna to the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls. Each landmark tells a story, and I take pride in sharing these narratives with my students, encouraging them to appreciate the environment and our diverse cultural history. I often say, "We can't really change the fact that we think we are Caribbean," and I relish our role as one of the head countries in CARICOM, standing shoulder to shoulder with our Caribbean neighbors.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy connecting with fellow Guyanese, whether it's discussing the latest local news or indulging in our favorite pastimes, like enjoying a lively 'skunt' on the weekends. As we share our experiences, we strengthen our bonds and celebrate our identityβ€”be it through food, music, or simply a warm conversation. Join me in this journey of learning, culture, and community!
