About OMAWATTIE DEWANAND

About Omawattie Dewanand

Greetings! My name is Omawattie Dewanand, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, my roots run deep in the vibrant culture of Guyana. Here, we celebrate our rich heritage through colorful festivals, delicious culinary traditions like metemgee and pepperpot, and the warmth of our close-knit communities. The sounds of the river and the scents of local delicacies are part of my everyday life, creating a unique backdrop to my journey.

Living in Aurora, I often reflect on what it means to be a Guyanese, especially in a world where our beautiful country is finally being recognized on the global stage. It fills me with pride to see people connecting over our culture, whether it's sharing stories of Lower Pom River's Sally Island or enjoying a plate of cassava pone with friends and family. The spirit of my community is reflected in the resilience and joy of our people, and I cherish every moment spent here.

As I engage with the diaspora, I am reminded of the strength of our connections, no matter where life takes us. Whether you're reminiscing about a childhood spent along the Pomeroon or exploring the vibrant streets of Georgetown, there's an undeniable bond that unites us all. I hope to foster these connections and share the beauty of our land with others, ensuring that the essence of Guyana thrives wherever we may be.
