Hello! I'm Omica De Souza, a proud resident of Essequibo, specifically from Old Road Ruby East in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My roots run deep in this beautiful land where the lush greenery meets the mighty rivers. Growing up here, I’ve been surrounded by the rich flavors of our local cuisine, from mouthwatering pepperpot to the sweet delight of black cake, which are staples of our culture and traditions. There's nothing quite like sharing a meal with family and friends, creating memories that last a lifetime.
In addition to indulging in our culinary delights, I cherish the warm connections I have with fellow Guyanese both here and abroad. Whether it’s reminiscing about the serene beauty of the Essequibo River or the lively atmosphere of our festivals, the bonds we share as a diaspora keep our culture alive, wherever we may be. I often hear comments like, “I don’t say I’m Caribbean; I’m Guyanese from South America,” which resonates with many of us who take pride in our unique identity.
