Hello! My name is Onam Vangronigen, and I am proud to call Bank Essequibo Seadam Parika East in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a bowman, I enjoy the traditional craft of crafting arrows and bows, a skill that has been passed down through generations. My work is not just about creating tools for hunting; it’s about connecting with my roots and preserving a piece of our cultural heritage. Whether it's the serene beauty of the Essequibo River or the vibrant markets filled with local delicacies like pepper pot and metemgee, this land inspires me daily.
I often find myself reflecting on the vibrant Guyanese diaspora, which stretches across the globe. Our communities, whether in New York, Toronto, or London, carry a piece of our homeland with them. As we share stories and experiences, it reminds me that no matter where we are, our hearts remain connected to the lush rainforests and the warm smiles of our people. I look forward to the day when I can contribute to initiatives that encourage our brothers and sisters abroad to return home and help in developing our beloved Guyana, perhaps by naming streets after our local legends like Rohan Kanhai or Lance Gibbs.
