Hello! Iām Oneca Lewis, a dedicated teacher based in the vibrant community of Mission, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep here, where the lush greenery meets the winding rivers, and the sounds of our unique culture resonate in everyday life. I take pride in instilling a love for learning in my students, embracing the rich history and traditions that make our country so special.
Growing up in this beautiful land, I've been surrounded by the tantalizing aromas of pepperpot and cook-up rice, and the warmth of my neighbors who treat each other like family. Whether it's sharing stories about the legendary Eddie Grant, who might just be my uncle, or reminiscing about afternoons spent along the Pomeroon River, I cherish the connections I've fostered both locally and in the diaspora. Despite some misconceptions about our identity, I proudly assert that Guyana is part of the Caribbean, thanks to our active role in CARICOM.
Through my work as an educator, I hope to inspire the next generation to appreciate our culture, from the rhythmic beats of our music to the annual Mashramani celebrations. I believe in bridging the gap between our homeland and those who have ventured abroad, ensuring that the essence of our community shines brightly, no matter where life takes us.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
