Greetings! My name is Onika Moses, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the lush heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my neighborhood, 14 Back Street Coffee, is a vibrant reflection of our rich cultural heritage. Growing up here, I have been surrounded by the sounds of the river, the aroma of fresh cook-up rice, and the warm embrace of community. The Essequibo River, so prominent in our lives, reminds me daily of the interconnectedness of nature and our people.
As a resident of Guyana, I am deeply passionate about sharing the beauty and diversity of our homeland with the world. From our historic Hindu temples to the vibrant festivals that celebrate our Indo-Guyanese roots, like Phagwah and Diwali, there’s so much to explore. I cherish the warmth of our people, and the stories shared around the dinner table, often featuring local favorites such as pepperpot and roti, bring us closer together, even when we are far apart.
Having witnessed Guyana's evolution, I’m excited about our strides toward becoming one of the richest countries in South America. My connection to the diaspora is a source of pride, as I understand how our shared experiences continue to shape our identity. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
