About ORLANDO MORGOW

About Orlando Morgow

Greetings! I’m Orlando Morgow, a proud fisherman based in the serene village of Regina Essequibo Coast, where the lush landscapes and the flowing waters of the Pomeroon River serve not only as my home but also as my workplace. Fishing has been a cherished tradition in my family, passed down through generations. Each day, I immerse myself in the rhythms of the river, cultivating a deep respect for the land and its resources. The catch of the day often finds its way into delicious meals, from pepperpot to fish curry, which I love sharing with my family and friends.

Living in this vibrant community, I cherish the rich connections I have with my neighbors and fellow fishermen. We often gather by the riverside to share stories, strategies, and laughter, much like the gatherings at the Pom River Grant and Yaya Landing. I take pride in our culture, with its blend of Indigenous, African, and Indo-Guyanese influences, which can be seen in our festivals, music, and culinary delights. It’s these experiences that have shaped who I am, and I strive to contribute positively to our community, ensuring that our traditions and stories continue to thrive.

Though I may be rooted in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora around the world. Whether it’s through sharing a plate of freshly caught fish or a hearty laugh over a local joke, I believe that our culture transcends borders. From the warmth of Akawini to the hustle of the Upper Pomeroon, I carry a piece of home wherever I go, eager to connect with others who share in this beautiful heritage.
