Hello! My name is Ortense FLOY, and I am proud to call the vibrant community of Coast 45 Cave Street, Dageraad in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a teacher, I am deeply committed to nurturing the minds of our youth, guiding them not just in academics but also in understanding the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. My roots run deep in this beautiful land, where the Pomeroon River flows and the sounds of the rainforest provide a melodious backdrop to our everyday lives.
Growing up near landmarks like St. Monica and the nearby communities of Grant Panama and Lower Pom River, I have always been inspired by the warmth and resilience of my fellow Guyanese. Whether it’s sharing a plate of delicious pepperpot, savoring fresh catch from the river, or celebrating our diverse festivals, I cherish every moment that connects us to our ancestors and to each other. My experiences have shaped my perspective, and I find joy in sharing my insights about life in Guyana, both here and with our diaspora community abroad.
As I continue to teach, I aim to instill a sense of pride in our culture and encourage my students to dream big. I believe that every conversation—whether it’s about the rush of development or the beauty of our traditions—helps us grow stronger together.
