Greetings! I’m Oswald Baird, an engineer hailing from the vibrant Essequibo Coast, specifically the Henrietta Housing area. My roots run deep in this picturesque region, where the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam meet the mouthwatering aromas of our local culinary delights, from spicy pepperpot to sweet black cake. I take pride in not only my work as an engineer but also in sharing the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, where our diverse communities come together to celebrate life through music, dance, and, of course, our renowned festivities like Mashramani.
Having lived here all my life, I’ve witnessed the beauty and challenges of our unique landscape. While some might lament the sometimes less-than-pristine state of Georgetown, I find joy in the warmth and resilience of my fellow Guyanese. I cherish the moments spent with family and friends, often reminiscing about our adventures and the tales passed down through generations. Like many in the diaspora, I feel a strong connection to our “long lost brothers and sisters” in places like Suriname, and I hope to bridge those connections through my work and community involvement.
