Hello! My name is Oudit Deonarine, and I proudly call 134 Belle Plaine in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a labourer, I work hard to support my family while staying deeply connected to the vibrant culture and rich traditions of Guyana. From the lush landscapes of our breathtaking rivers to the colourful streets of Georgetown, there's no place quite like home. Whether it's sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying a lively cricket match with friends, every moment reflects the warmth of my heritage.
Growing up in Guyana has shaped my perspective, and I cherish the strong sense of community we have here. I often reflect on the teachings passed down through generations, from celebrating Diwali with our Hindu brothers and sisters to the cultural significance of our local festivals. It's these experiences that remind me of the importance of preserving our environment and educating others about the need to protect our waterways from plastic and littering, as I've seen firsthand how it impacts daily life.
Even though many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, the Guyanese diaspora remains close to my heart. I am grateful for the support and connections we share, whether through social media or visiting each other. As we navigate the challenges and joys of life, I hope to continue representing the spirit of Guyana, keeping our traditions alive, and encouraging others to appreciate the beauty of our land and its people.
