Greetings from the Essequibo Coast, where the lush landscapes and vibrant cultures of Guyana come alive! My name is Ounkaars Persaud, and I proudly call Richmond Housing my home. Living in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I cherish the rich heritage of our land, from the sweetness of a ripe golden apple to the invigorating flavors of pepperpot shared during festive occasions. This is a space where the spirit of our ancestors thrives, and each day I’m reminded that "this universe and everything in it belongs to God," as many of my fellow Guyanese would say.
As someone deeply connected to my roots, I value the bonds we share as a diaspora. Whether it’s through lively conversations about our beloved Pom River or sharing laughter over the unique pronunciations (and mispronunciations!) of our place names, these connections keep the essence of Guyana alive in our hearts. In every gathering, from New Year celebrations that light up the night with fireworks to casual get-togethers where we indulge in hearty cassava bread and fish curry, I find a sense of belonging and community.
