Hello! I’m Pamela Singh, a proud resident of Essequibo, specifically from the vibrant area of 189 Block 8 New Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a clerk, I enjoy the daily interactions that come with my job, where I get to meet people from all walks of life. Guyana's rich diversity is reflected in my everyday experiences, whether it's through engaging conversations or the flavors of our local cuisine, like a good curry that may or may not include duck! My roots trace back to the Indian community, with my ancestors arriving in Guyana in 1855 from Lucknow, India, to work on the sugarcane plantations. This heritage shapes my identity and infuses my life with the traditions and celebrations that make our culture so unique. From Diwali festivities to enjoying a plate of chow mein or roti, I cherish the moments that connect me to my roots. As I often say, “I love my country, Guyana—beautiful people, beautiful culture.”
Although I’m based in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to our diaspora, especially those in places like London. It's heartwarming to see how we hold onto our traditions no matter where we are. I look forward to sharing more about our beautiful homeland and the stories that make us who we are, both here and abroad.
