Growing up, I found joy in the lively markets of Georgetown, where the sounds of chatter mingle with the vibrant colors of local produce. This connection to my homeland continues to fuel my passion for sharing our culture, from the unique flavors of our dishes to the warmth of our hospitality.

As a resident of Old Road, I am deeply intertwined with the community, cherishing the friendships forged over shared meals and celebrations. I often reflect on the historical significance of our diverse cultural background, from the days of British colonialism to the present, where we stand proudly as Guyanese. My family's journey, tracing back to the waves of Indian indentured laborers, reminds me of the resilience and spirit that characterize our people. For many of us, the thought of returning home—whether it's a visit or a permanent move—is a constant longing that binds the diaspora, as expressed by those who have found solace in memories of our lush greenery and spirited festivals.

Though some debate our Caribbean identity, I firmly believe that our roots run deep within the Caribbean landscape, shaped by centuries of interactions and shared histories.
