Hello! I’m Parmanand Chanderpaul, a proud rice farmer from the beautiful Regina Essequibo Coast, nestled just west of the public road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this fertile land where the rivers flow abundantly, and the traditions of our ancestors are cherished. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Upper Pomeroon River and the vibrant community of Akawini, I’ve cultivated not just rice, but a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage.
As a rice farmer, I embrace the connection between the land and the food we share with family and friends. The essence of our lives in Guyana can be found in the simple joys of preparing a meal that includes our beloved dal and rice, spiced with the flavors of our diverse communities. Whether it's celebrating a festive occasion or gathering at the riverbank, our cuisine reflects the unity of the various cultural groups that call Guyana home. I often reminisce about the days spent fishing at St. Monica or enjoying a hearty meal near River Mora Island, where stories are shared, and laughter fills the air.
Though I now find myself in Regina, I carry a piece of Guyana with me in every step I take. The bond with my fellow Guyanese, whether in the diaspora or back home, remains strong. I invite everyone to experience the beauty and warmth of our culture, and I hope to contribute to the growing narrative of Guyana, a nation on the rise, much like my beloved rice fields flourishing under the sun.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
