Greetings! My name is Parmeshwar Chandrapaul, and I proudly call Coast 22 Perseverance in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. This vibrant part of our beautiful country is rich in culture, with the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon River and the warmth of our communities, where stories and laughter echo through the air. Growing up here, I’ve been fortunate to indulge in the delectable local cuisine, from the savory delights of pepperpot to the sweet treat of black cake, a traditional favorite, especially during festive times.
As a resident deeply connected to my roots, I cherish the diverse cultural heritage of Guyana, which is a melting pot of influences—from the Indigenous peoples to the East Indian and African communities that enrich our society. I often reflect on the unique pronunciations of our place names, like Essequibo and Pomeroon, which carry the essence of our history and identity. Each river, such as the back canal of Hackney or the serene banks of Arapiako, holds memories and stories that bridge our past with the present.
Beyond the borders of our homeland, I feel a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora worldwide. It’s heartwarming to see how we keep our culture alive, sharing our experiences and traditions. Whether through music, food, or storytelling, I believe that even from afar, we can foster a sense of community that transcends geographical boundaries. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
