Living in the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am deeply connected to the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guyana. From the serene banks of the Pomeroon River to the bustling markets where the aroma of cook-up rice and pepperpot fills the air, my life is a celebration of our unique blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. As a housewife, I cherish my role in nurturing family traditions and sharing our culinary delights with loved ones.
Despite being geographically situated in South America, I understand the complexities of our identity. Guyana may not be the first name that comes to mind when people think of the Caribbean, yet we proudly carry the essence of Caribbean culture in our hearts. Whether it’s celebrating Mashramani with vibrant parades or indulging in a warm bowl of fish curry, my experiences are steeped in the joy and resilience of our people. I often reflect on the diaspora connection and the stories shared by those who have ventured far from home, yet still hold a piece of Guyana in their hearts.
