Hello! I’m Patrina Barry, a proud resident of the Essequibo region, specifically the vibrant 419 New Housing Scheme in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Guyana is a land of immense beauty, from our lush rainforests to the majestic Essequibo River, which holds a special place in my heart. Here, I find inspiration in our rich culture, diverse communities, and the warmth of our people. We may not be geographically part of the Caribbean, but our history and traditions are deeply intertwined with the Caribbean spirit, which reflects in our music, dance, and especially our cuisine.
Growing up amidst the fusion of cultures, I’ve developed a love for our local dishes, whether it’s savoring a hearty plate of pepperpot or enjoying sweet treats like guava cheese. The diaspora has also created strong connections, and I cherish the stories we share about life in Guyana, as well as the fond memories we hold close to our hearts, especially the tales of family gatherings and community celebrations that bring us all together.
As I navigate life here in Essequibo, I’m continually amazed by the resilience and creativity of my fellow Guyanese. Our community is a reflection of our history and commitment to progress, and I’m proud to contribute to that legacy while sharing the beauty of our homeland with the world. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
