Growing up in a place like Lower Pomeroon, I’ve been blessed with the diverse influences of our ethnic groups, all of which contribute to our unique Guyanese identity. Our festivals are lively, filled with the sounds of tassa drums and the scent of delicious dishes simmering on the stove. I take pride in the fact that our culinary heritage goes beyond any single dish, drawing from the flavors and traditions of our Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and Indigenous peoples. It’s this blend that makes our celebrations, such as Mashramani and Phagwah, truly special.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the bond that ties us to our homeland, no matter where we are in the world. My hope is to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of our culture and the warmth of our community.
