Hello! Iām Pheona Sharp, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled close to the beautiful Essequibo River, this vibrant area is not just home to rich biodiversity but also to a warm community that embodies the spirit of our beloved land. As a local, I celebrate our diverse culture through food, music, and traditions. Whether it's indulging in some delectable curry chicken or goat during festive times, or enjoying lively conversations about cricket and local folklore, I believe our cuisine tells the story of our history. It's amusing, though, how many people still think of Guyana as part of the Caribbean! While we share cultural ties, our unique identity is shaped by our customs, history, and our position as the only English-speaking nation on the South American continent.
As much as I love my home, I also treasure our diaspora connections.
