Greetings! I’m Phulmattie Charles-Rabin, a proud resident of the Coast 12 Lima Housing Scheme in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the stunning landscapes and vibrant culture of our homeland, I've developed a deep appreciation for our rich heritage. From the lush green banks of the Pomeroon River to the sizzle of fresh cook-up rice and the sweetness of a ripe mango, every moment reflects the warmth and flavor of our community. As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on how much has changed since I first left in 1970. The remarkable developments that have transformed our cities would leave anyone impressed. I cherish moments when I can reconnect with my roots and share the stories of our local landmarks, like the majestic Kaieteur Falls, and the lively culture that makes us who we are. It’s these experiences that instill a sense of pride in my identity as a Guyanese—whether it’s the rhythmic pulses of chutney music or the mouth-watering aroma of pepperpot cooking during the holidays.
For me, being Guyanese means embracing the warmth of our community and the strength of our heritage.
