Hello! I’m Poonawattie Gobin, a proud teacher based on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, where the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam meet the warm hearts of our community. My passion for education goes hand in hand with my love for our rich Guyanese culture, from the vibrant festivals that fill our streets to the delicious flavors of our local cuisine, like pepperpot and metemgee. I believe that every lesson in the classroom is an opportunity to share our heritage, especially with students who may have ties to the diaspora, creating a bridge between our homeland and the world.
Having grown up surrounded by the sounds of the Lower Pom River and the familiar calls of our wildlife, I cherish the stories and traditions that shape our identity. I often find myself reminiscing about the beautiful sights of Bartica and other iconic landmarks that showcase Guyana's natural beauty. It's a joy to see the pride of our people, both at home and abroad, as they connect over shared experiences and the unique pronunciation of our local dialects. As one of my former students said, "The pronunciations tho," highlighting the charm that comes with our diverse linguistic heritage.
In my role as an educator, I strive to inspire my students to embrace their roots, no matter where life takes them. With meaningful conversations and engaging lessons, I hope to instill in them a sense of belonging and pride in being Guyanese. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
