Welcome to my corner of the world! My name is Pooranchan Persaud, and I proudly call the beautiful village of Aurora on the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled between the lush greenery and the serene rivers, this community is a vibrant mix of cultures, where the echoes of our East Indian heritage resonate through every festival and family gathering. From Diwali to Phagwah, we celebrate with the same passion as our ancestors, sharing delicious dishes like roti, curry, and pepperpot that keep our traditions alive and deliciously close to our hearts.
The Essequibo River, winding like a lifeline through our land, holds a special place in my life. Many weekends I find myself along its banks, reflecting on the stories of our people—stories that span from our motherland India to the Caribbean shores we now call home. It's a reminder of our shared history, particularly the journey of our forebearers during the period of indentureship, and how their resilience shaped our vibrant Guyanese identity. Whether it's the lush landscape of River Boradaro or the warmth of our community, I cherish every moment spent in this beautiful land.
As a resident of Aurora, I am passionate about fostering connections within our diaspora. I believe that by sharing our unique experiences and cultural heritage, we can bridge the gap between home and abroad. While challenges persist, as some say, "people need to stop being delusional and act like things are all good," I remain hopeful.
