Hello! My name is Preya Sooknarine, and I am a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically from Windsor Castle in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of beautiful Guyana. Growing up surrounded by lush landscapes and the vibrant culture of our diverse communities, I have developed a deep appreciation for our local traditions and culinary delights, particularly the rich flavors of cook-up rice and pepperpot that many of us cherish. There's nothing quite like sharing a meal with family and friends, and I often think of the diaspora connections that keep us linked, no matter where we roam.
As someone who takes pride in my roots, I’ve witnessed firsthand the unique blend of cultures that Guyana has to offer. Whether it’s enjoying a lively gathering filled with music and laughter or taking in the breathtaking views of the Essequibo River, there’s a warmth in our way of life that resonates deeply. I often feel that even though many of our educated folks venture abroad, the spirit of Guyana remains strong in all of us. We carry our history and stories, like those shared about Canal Lower Pom.
