About DENNIS PROSTON PROSTON

About Dennis Proston

Greetings! My name is Dennis Proston, and I am a proud farmer hailing from the vibrant community of Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Nestled in the heart of our lush rainforest, I cultivate a variety of crops that not only nourish my family but also contribute to our local markets. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our land and the bountiful resources it provides, from the sweet fruits to the rich soils perfect for farming. There’s nothing quite like savoring a meal made from fresh, local produce—whether it’s a hearty pepperpot or a steaming bowl of duck curry.

Baramita is more than just my home; it’s a community where stories are shared, and traditions are cherished. I often reminisce about the lively gatherings where laughter fills the air and the sounds of the lapa echo as we celebrate our vibrant culture. The spirit of camaraderie among my neighbors reminds me of the sentiments expressed by many in the diaspora who long for the warmth of home. It’s a feeling of belonging that transcends borders—one that encourages us to hug, dance, and celebrate our Guyanese identity, no matter where we are.

As I work the land and nurture my crops, I am also deeply connected to fellow Guyanese around the world. I cherish the stories and experiences shared by my compatriots, like the tales of Chana Man in Georgetown or the flavors of Chana enjoyed by many abroad. Each connection reinforces my pride in our heritage and fuels my passion for preserving our culture, so that we may continue to inspire future generations to embrace our roots.
