Greetings! My name is Sonia Raghunandan, and I proudly call Baramita, in the beautiful Barima-Waini region of Guyana, my home. Known for its lush landscapes and vibrant communities, Baramita is a place where the spirit of our Indigenous heritage thrives alongside all the rich cultures that make Guyana unique. From the bustling markets to the soothing sounds of the rivers, every day offers a reminder of the beauty we share in this land of many waters.
As a resident, I cherish the flavors of our local cuisine, from the aromatic pepperpot to the delightful cassava pone. The warmth of our people is felt in every shared meal and celebration, transcending borders and bringing our diaspora community together, whether I’m connecting with friends who have moved to Trinidad or others across the globe. Though I may be intimidated at times by the unique pronunciations of our beautiful creole language, I'm proud of my roots and the stories they carry.
