Greetings from the Essequibo Coast! My name is Rajendra Anauge, and I’m a proud welder residing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. I grew up in a vibrant community where the sounds of laughter and the aromas of delicious local dishes fill the air. Whether it’s the spicy doubles with tamarind or a hearty shrimp roti packed with channa, aloo, and pumpkin, food has always been a central part of my life. I cherish the moments spent with family and friends, sharing meals and stories, just as I fondly remember the thrill of soccer matches by the river. River GT — a place that will forever hold a special spot in my heart.
As a Guyanese, I take immense pride in my heritage. I often reminisce about the richness of our culture, from the colorful festivals to the warmth of our people. The diasporic connection is strong, and I feel it even here in my community. Many of us share a longing for the tastes and traditions we grew up with, like simmering pepperpot on special occasions. I’ve even found myself contemplating how to recreate those flavors, like bunning some sugar to whip up that beloved dish of my childhood when I'm far from home.
My journey as a welder has allowed me to contribute to my community while staying rooted in my culture. I look forward to connecting with others who share the same passions, whether it’s through our shared love for soccer or our appreciation of beautiful Caribbean cooking.
