About RAJENDRA CHUNILALL

About Rajendra Chunilall

Greetings! My name is Rajendra Chunilall, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant communities that embody the spirit of our beautiful Guyana. As a resident here, I cherish the rich tapestry of cultures that coexist, particularly the delicious fusion of Indo-Guyanese and Afro-Guyanese cuisines that grace our tables. Whether it's a flavorful duck curry or a hearty plate of chow mein, our culinary traditions reflect the diverse heritage of our people.

In my community, we appreciate the importance of connection, both locally and within the global diaspora. I often hear tales of those from Little Guyana in Queens and Brooklyn, where many Guyanese have settled, keeping our traditions alive while sharing stories of home. It’s heartwarming to see how our culture, with its unique blend of influences from Indigenous, Chinese, and Portuguese roots, continues to thrive beyond our borders. As many of us say, “In Guyana, we do not talk about that no more,” but we do celebrate our rich history and the bonds that tie us together across distances.

Join me in exploring the beauty of our land, from the majestic rivers that flow through Essequibo to the vibrant markets filled with fresh produce and spices. Whether you're sampling local dishes or engaging with the warmth of our people, you’ll find that every experience is a reflection of our diverse identities. Here’s to celebrating our Guyanese heritage and fostering a sense of belonging for all, both at home and in the diaspora!
