Greetings! My name is Rajendra Kumar, and I proudly call Wakenaam E Marias Pleasure in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated labourer, I spend my days working hard to support my family and community. Guyana is a melting pot of cultures, where the rich heritage of Amerindian, African, Chinese, Portuguese, East Indian, and European influences creates a vibrant atmosphere that I cherish deeply. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of callaloo being cooked and the aroma of pepperpot simmering on the stove, my heart is always intertwined with the flavors of our beloved land.
While some may express concerns about the rising cost of living in our beautiful country, I remain hopeful and resilient. The challenges we face are real, but so is our spirit. In my day-to-day life, I often reflect on the stories of those in the diaspora, like my friend whose father came to the U.S. but still keeps our culinary traditions alive.
