Greetings from the beautiful Essequibo Coast! My name is Rajendra Persaud, and I proudly call Lima Anna home. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, our vibrant community is rich in cultural diversity, where everyone takes part in each other's traditions and customs. Growing up against the backdrop of lush landscapes and the soothing sounds of the river, I have developed a deep appreciation for our local delicacies, from savory pepperpot to the sweet delight of cassava pone, which I love sharing with friends and family during gatherings.
As a resident of this remarkable region, I often reflect on our country’s role in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), a testament to our unified spirit and shared heritage with nations like Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago. Through my experiences, I have come to value the connections we maintain within the diaspora, as they provide opportunities for cultural exchange and support. I believe that these ties strengthen our sense of identity, as we celebrate our roots while embracing new horizons.
