Hello! My name is Ramlall Rooplall, and I proudly hail from the Essequibo Coast, specifically 53 Estate Johanna in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a dedicated farmer, I am deeply connected to the land that nurtures our vibrant crops, which include everything from cassava and rice to the sweet, succulent fruits that grace our tables. Farming is not just my occupation; it's a way of life that embodies the spirit of our community and keeps our traditions alive.
Living in Guyana, a place often described as “the hidden gem of South America,” I embrace both the challenges and the beauty of our country. While it’s easy for outsiders to see the newly built bridges and stadiums and think it’s all sunshine, there’s a reality that many of us experience daily. Like many Guyanese, I sometimes feel frustrated by the socio-economic struggles we face and the political landscape that can overshadow our rich cultural heritage. Nevertheless, our resilience shines through, and sharing our local dishes, like pepperpot and metemgee, makes me proud to be part of this unique tapestry.
As I continue my journey in agriculture, I cherish the connections we have as a diaspora.
