Hello! My name is Ray Garraway, and I am a proud farmer hailing from the lush landscapes of the Essequibo Coast, specifically from New Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Agriculture has always been the backbone of my life, instilling in me a deep appreciation for the rich, fertile soil we are blessed with in Guyana. I love sharing the fruits of my labor with both local communities and the Guyanese diaspora, who often reminisce about traditional dishes like metemgee and pepperpot that remind them of home. There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly harvested produce straight from the farm!
Growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture of Guyana, I often find myself reflecting on the warmth of our people and the joy of our celebrations. Whether it’s the sweetness of a ripe sapodilla or the comforting embrace of a family get-together, I feel a strong connection to our heritage. I often hear from friends and family abroad about how much they miss the sounds of the market and the aroma of our local cuisine. It inspires me to keep our traditions alive, whether it’s through cooking or sharing stories about our beautiful land.
In my spare time, I also enjoy engaging with the Guyanese community both locally and online. It’s heartening to see how our culture resonates with those living abroad, from the way we pronounce our unique words to the pride we take in our homeland. I'm here to celebrate Guyana, to remind everyone of the beauty and richness of our culture, and to foster connections that transcend borders.
