Hello! I’m Reanna Fredericks, a proud resident of Essequibo Mainstay Whyaka in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant rivers, I have developed a deep appreciation for our unique culture, from the lively sounds of the tassa drums during festival time to the delicious aroma of pepperpot wafting through our homes during Christmastime. Whether it’s enjoying a meal of fresh catch from the Pomeroon River or sharing stories with neighbors over a cup of bush tea, my heart is rooted in the rhythms of our land.
In my community, we value our connections to the diaspora and the stories of those who have ventured beyond our borders. I often find myself chuckling at how outsiders stumble over the pronunciations of our local rivers, like the Lower Pomeroon or Waiwaro Creek—it’s all part of our charm!
