Hello! I’m Rebecca Richards, a proud resident of East Bank Essequibo, nestled within the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush beauty of our land, I carry with me the flavors and sights that define my culture—from the spicy aroma of pepperpot simmering on Christmas morning to the rhythmic beats of our folk music that echo through community gatherings. My heart beats for the Whiptail lizards basking in the sun and the colorful markets at Parika that offer the freshest catch and produce.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections that tie us to our homeland, wherever we may be in the world. I fondly remember nights spent in West Indian clubs in Queens and Brooklyn, where the air buzzed with laughter and the sounds of classic tunes that filled the dance floors. There’s nothing quite like a gathering of family and friends, sharing stories and memories that bring us back to our roots—whether it's a friendly debate on the right way to pronounce “Georgetown” or reminiscing about the flavors of a homemade dhal puri.
Living here in Essequibo, I am inspired by the warmth of our people and the strength of our community.
