Hello! My name is Reinhardt Rodrigues, and I am a proud carpenter hailing from the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Hampton Court Anna, located in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant communities, I have always been deeply connected to my roots. The Essequibo River, with its breathtaking views and rich history, has been a constant source of inspiration for my work. I believe that the craftsmanship in carpentry reflects the warmth and spirit of our people, whether it's building a simple home or creating intricate wooden sculptures.
As a Guyanese, I cherish our culture, especially the flavors of our diverse cuisine. From savoring pepperpot during the festive season to indulging in the delightful Chinese takeout that warms our hearts after a long day's work, food is an integral part of our lives. I often reminisce about my childhood, where evenings were spent at local eateries that served the best 'red pork' and fried rice, just like at Lim Kam in New Amsterdam. These experiences shaped my appreciation for the simple joys that life in Guyana offers.
Despite the challenges we face, including the complexities around our land and resources, my love for Guyana remains steadfast. I understand the concerns of those who have left in search of better opportunities, as many of my family members have done. However, I believe in the potential of our nation and the strength of our community. As I continue my journey in carpentry, I hope to contribute to the legacy of Guyana and keep the spirit of our culture alive, one handcrafted piece at a time.
