Born and raised on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, I am proud to call Affiance my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my upbringing has been steeped in the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. From enjoying the warmth of Sunday family gatherings filled with delicious oxtail pepperpot to sharing stories of our vibrant history, I cherish the unique blend of African, East Indian, and Indigenous influences that define us as a nation. Home is where the heart is, and Guyana will always hold a special place in mine.
As a resident of this vibrant community, I have witnessed the challenges that our people face, especially the exodus of many Indo-Guyanese to places like Queens, New York—often fondly referred to as "Little Guyana." This outflow has profoundly impacted our nation, but with the recent oil discoveries, there is hope on the horizon. I believe these developments could inspire many from the diaspora to return and contribute to the resurgence of our economy.
In my daily life, I aim to harness the strengths of our culture, whether it's through the culinary delights we share or the stories that connect us across borders. I love engaging with fellow Guyanese, whether here at home or in the diaspora, and I take pride in our shared experiences.
