Hello! I’m Reyaz Ghanie, a proud farmer from the beautiful River Northern Hogg Island in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, my home is a vibrant community where the lush greenery meets the rhythm of the river. Here, I grow a variety of crops, including the famous Guyanese cassava and pepper, often used in our traditional dishes like metemgee and cook-up rice. Nothing beats the taste of fresh produce straight from the land!
My journey in agriculture is deeply connected to my roots, and I enjoy sharing the rich flavors of Guyanese culture with others. Whether it’s hosting a cookout for family and friends or introducing visitors to our local delicacies, I take pride in showcasing our unique heritage. Though living in Guyana has its challenges, especially with the ongoing changes due to our natural resources, I believe in the resilience of our people. Like many in the diaspora, I often think about how we can continue to uplift our communities and promote the beauty of our homeland.
In my free time, you’ll find me exploring the stunning landscapes of Guyana, from the breathtaking waterfalls to the vibrant markets filled with spices and handcrafted goods.
