Greetings! I’m Reyon Benn, a proud miner hailing from the picturesque Essequibo Coast, specifically the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I've always found inspiration in the lush green landscapes and the rich cultural heritage that our community embodies. From enjoying the sweet taste of fresh pomerac and the mouthwatering aroma of cook-up rice to sharing stories with neighbors beneath the starlit sky, my roots run deep in this beautiful land.
Working in the mining industry, I embrace the challenges and rewards that come with it. The camaraderie amongst fellow miners and the stories we share about our families back home keep the spirit alive, even when we’re miles apart from our loved ones. I often reflect on the days spent at the Golden Star and Lower Pom River Grant, where friendships were forged over cups of strong black tea and slices of homemade bread. These memories fuel my determination and passion for my craft.
While my work takes me away from home, I am deeply connected to my community. Through the support of the diaspora, we can celebrate our culture, whether it's through music, folklore, or the flavors of our traditional dishes. I look forward to continuing to represent the warmth and resilience of our people, wherever my journey takes me.
