About RICHARD BETHUNE

About Richard Bethune

Greetings! My name is Richard Bethune, and I am an operator from the vibrant community of West Coast Demerara, specifically the 273 No. 2 Scheme in Uitvlugt. Growing up in Guyana, I have always been deeply connected to the rich culture and history that defines our nation. From the lush landscapes of the Essequibo Islands to the vibrant markets where you can find everything from fresh produce to local delicacies, my roots are firmly planted in this beautiful country. Guyana's independence in 1966 and its journey as a member of the Commonwealth resonate with me, as it reflects our resilience and the spirit of our people.

Food has always been a central part of my life. There's nothing quite like enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot or savoring a delicious bowl of cook-up rice, especially during family gatherings. I cherish the memories of sharing meals with loved ones, where stories are exchanged, and laughter fills the air. I also appreciate the blend of cultures that make up our society, from the flavors of Chinese takeout in paper bags to the warmth of our traditional Guyanese kitchens. These experiences shape not only my palate but also my understanding of community and togetherness.

As I navigate my path in the diaspora, I hold dear the connections I have with fellow Guyanese, both at home and abroad. Whether it’s reminiscing about our days in British Guiana or seeing the progress our nation is making, I take pride in being part of a community that continues to grow and evolve. My hope is to share the beauty of Guyana with others while fostering a sense of unity among all Guyanese, wherever they may be. That’s my country, Guyana, and it holds a special place in my heart.
