About RICHARD SHARPE

About Richard Sharpe

Hello! I’m Richard Sharpe, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Living here is a blend of simplicity and vibrancy, with the Essequibo River flowing by and the lush greenery of Guyana surrounding us. My days often include enjoying local dishes like cook-up rice and pepperpot, with the occasional stop at the local market to pick up some fresh callaloo, which we affectionately call bahgi. It’s these flavors that remind me of our rich heritage and community spirit.

As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the mixed feelings about leaving our homeland. Many like myself have had to navigate complex emotions about our roots while exploring opportunities abroad. I often hear from friends overseas, “GUYANESE FAM WYA?!?!?”—a phrase that instantly brings us together, no matter the distance. The connections we maintain as a community are vital, whether we’re sharing a laugh about our beloved balangae (eggplant) or reminiscing about the canefields of Essequibo.

In my free time, I love to engage with both local and international Guyanese. From discussing the unique spots in our country—like the majestic Kaieteur Falls—to sharing stories about our daily lives, I cherish these interactions. We may have flights booked and dreams of a better life elsewhere, but no matter where we go, our hearts always beat for Guyana. Feel free to connect with me; I’d love to share more about my journey and hear yours!
