About HELEN RICHARDS

About Helen Richards

Hello! I’m Helen Richards, and I proudly call Baramita in the Barima-Waini region home. Nestled among the lush greenery and vibrant landscapes of Guyana, my life here is deeply intertwined with the mighty rivers that flow through our land, such as the Pomeroon and the Kamadankoro. Much like the community I cherish, my roots run deep, bringing together the warmth of our local culture and the rich flavors of traditional dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice.

As a resident of Baramita, I have a profound appreciation for our natural beauty and cultural heritage. From the sounds of the river to the laughter shared during community gatherings, it’s the simple moments that define our way of life. I often reminisce about the unique experiences that connect us as Guyanese, whether it’s debating the best way to pronounce local names or reminiscing about our beloved landmarks like the Mission Kabakaburi. These connections, both near and far, help me feel close to my fellow Guyanese, no matter where we find ourselves in the world.

In sharing my journey, I hope to bridge the gap between our local traditions and the dynamic Guyanese diaspora. I believe that even from afar, we carry a piece of Guyana with us, celebrating our shared identity and supporting one another through the vibrant tales of our communities. I encourage everyone to embrace their heritage, whether it’s through food, language, or memories, as these elements weave together our unique story as Guyanese.
